This week we had the chance to go to Novartis, one of the biggest pharma companies in the world.
Upon arrival we learned basic information about the human body in the digital school hub, followed by an introduction into the function of the receptors of taste. Through DNA-based testing we then determined our ability to intensely taste bitterness using scientfic methods such as PCR and gel electrophoresis. Some of us are non-tasters, some of us "normal tasters" and some of us supertasters, based on our genes. We learned a lot about the makeup of our genetic material and how it influences our day-to-day lives. This experience allowed us not only to do lab work ourselves, but also to gain insight into work in pharma industries.
